McDonald’s Snack Wraps are finally coming back — here’s when and what to expect

LOS ANGELES - Snack Wraps are making a comeback. After nearly a decade off U.S. menus, McDonald’s announced Tuesday that it will reintroduce its popular Snack Wraps starting July 10. The reboot comes after years of fan demand — including petitions, viral TikToks, and even customers continuing to order them at drive-thrus.
The new wraps won’t be identical to the original version, but McDonald’s hopes the streamlined offering will boost sales and appeal to inflation-weary customers seeking lower-cost meals.
Why did McDonald’s remove Snack Wraps — and why bring them back now?
The backstory:
McDonald’s introduced the Snack Wrap in 2006 as a portable way to eat chicken on the go. The item featured a flour tortilla filled with chicken (grilled or fried), shredded cheese, lettuce, and sauce. But by 2016, the company dropped it from U.S. menus due to prep time issues in its kitchens.
Despite the removal, fans never stopped asking for its return. A Change.org petition garnered nearly 19,000 signatures, while TikTok videos of Snack Wraps in other countries gained millions of views. Even McDonald’s U.S. President Joe Erlinger acknowledged that customers were still trying to order them.
"We listen to our fans, and the Snack Wrap’s return is a testament to that," Erlinger told the Associated Press.
What will the new Snack Wraps look like?
What's next:
When Snack Wraps return to U.S. locations on July 10, they’ll come in two varieties: Ranch and Spicy. Both will use McDonald’s new McCrispy Strips, introduced in May, as the chicken base.
Some differences from the original include:
- No grilled chicken option — only fried
- No honey mustard or sweet chili sauce
- Simplified prep tools for faster service at 13,500+ U.S. locations
McDonald’s wouldn’t say whether more flavor or protein options could be added later, but said it would "continue listening to our fans."
How could Snack Wraps help McDonald’s during a tough year?
Big picture view:
McDonald’s U.S. sales have been sluggish, with same-store sales down 3.6% in Q1 2025. Rising prices have pushed many lower- and middle-income customers to eat at home instead.
Snack Wraps offer a lower-cost, smaller-portion alternative at a time when fast-food prices are up 41% since 2019, according to market research firm Circana. At Burger King, for example, a chicken wrap costs around $2.99, compared to over $5.49 for a full-size sandwich.
Industry experts say more Americans are moving toward snack-sized meals and flexible eating times, making wraps a timely addition.
