A chart-topping pop-rock band from the 2000s is on a pop-up tour – and they’re showing up at houses, backyards, bowling alleys and more.

And the first stops are already in the books.

All-American Rejects pop-up shows

Big picture view:

All-American Rejects, a popular alt-rock/pop punk band from the early 2000s, is releasing a new album and is going on tour in an unexpected way.

The band is popping up in random cities across the Midwest – and at even more random locations.

First shows:

The band already has several pop-up shows in the books, often in tandem with a local college or university. Their most recent show on Sunday, for example, was hosted in partnership with the University of Missouri’s radio station, 88.1.

"Show goers were crammed on the front lawn, the porch, and even on the roof of neighboring houses," FOX 2 Now in St. Louis reported

But they’ve also played at a bowling alley in Minneapolis and in a barn in Ames, Iowa.

What they're saying:

"The whole thing about this has been sort of like this weird synchronistic happenstance of reactivity," Tyson Ritter, the band’s lead singer, told KBIA, the National Public Radio-member station in Columbia, Mo.

"We played this random house party, and it was like, of all the shows we played in the last ten years, it was, like this big wake up call to the reality of, "Oh, this is why we started doing this." We played in house shows. We played backyards, VFWs and I just told my manager, I go, ‘That worked, let's do that.’"

How it works:

The band has a sign-up form linked on its Instagram, for those in the Midwest who want to request they come to their city.

The form asks for your phone number or email and your city, and says you’ll be notified if the band comes your way.

The band hasn’t given any indication of where they’re heading next.

Dig deeper:

House parties are nostalgic and are likely to draw in original fans of the band from 20 years ago, but also provide accessible concerts that aren't only held in large arenas.

The band has some bigger, "official" tour dates on the book this summer as well.
